I've been told on numerous occasions that i don't do enough fan art. Although I've been known to dabble in a couple fan art pieces here and there for shits and giggles, my gallery isn't here to be primarily comprised of stuff i didn't come up with myself.

That's not an attempt to discredit anyone who enjoys a good Sonic the Hedgehog fan art, Naruto Fan-fic or a Philly the Kidd piece (hint, hint), 'cause it goes without saying that you should do what you wanna!

It just be's like that with me lately, I guess....

How do you guys feel about fan art on DA?

honestly don't like fan art all that much. I feel like for every second you spend on drawing someone else's stuff you could have used that time to do something original
and of value to yourself. At the end of the day it's not yours so you can only take credit
in drawing it not creating it and i dunno about you, but I enjoy the feeling of giving life to a new character and then going to flesh them out.

If deviantArt didn't have fan art I wouldn't be here. That's basically what this site is for.

Fan-art is a good way to get people to see your work (if it's any good, that is) but after a while you just wanna explore/create your own universe. :)

I like your original art :) I remember from some time ago when I found you on youtube on a manga page/storyboard tutorial and I saw how badass your art was :D Hahaha I still remember the interview where you talked about your story and gave some tips to other artist. And practicing storyboard by pausing a movie in the beggining and ending of a scene :D

Fan art is cool, especially while learning to draw/make art. I grew out of it I guess. After awhile it's like doing impressions in comedy. Good comedians become known for who they are, not for who they can talk/act like.

Plus I don't want to be known only for drawing cool version superheroes from Marvel or DC or the current hot property of the moment. I have stuff in my head more entertaining than that; I want to bring that out.

I don't mind fanart but when it comes to making it I only draw characters i like, although nowadays i find most character designs quite boring.

I use fanart to get noticed on DA, but before I started that all I did was my own characters. fanart pieces are easy. so I appreciate original work much more. that said I do enjoy fan art too

I believe doing a ridiculous amount of fan art can result in an artist being consumed with the want to please. A lot of People are drawn to fan art. Especially anime fan art. So it's like the artist is putting out artwork to please others and to gain popularity rather than for the artists own enjoyment. Of course this isn't the case for everybody.

I like doing my own thing. Haven't done fan art in a long time. Don't get me wrong, I like drawing fan art. I actually feel like trying my hand at a few Legend of Korra pieces. But I feel at the present time I need to focus on develping my own skills, style and ideas.
