Really awesome the way that you explain your vulnerability about making the move. I admire your courageousness to step out and discover a new place. And to fail. That's amazing...but then again, when does LeSean Thomas ever do anything but amazing.
Thank you for doing this. I need to hear stuff like this once in a while. I get really discouraged, because I'm 34 years old and didn't start thinking about a career in animation until I was in my late 20s. I just thought that there was no way I could do such a thing, that it wasn't the kind of thing that a guy like me should get paid to do. I'm still not paid to do it, (for good reasons, mind you), but every time I feel like giving up on it completely, God throws something my way to let me feel like it could still happen. I've met industry people in places I'd never thought I'd find them who encourage me to continue trying to develop my talents. I just have to keep reminding myself that failure is part of the process. That we don't learn anything of substance without failing at it first.
Or, to quote Jake from Adventure Time: "Dude, suckin' at something is the first step to being sorta good at something."
I've been inspired by your work since 2003 and now I'm inspired by your words. Thank you for sharing this video with us and hopefully in some point in my life I can dare to do some of the things you did.
Some empowering stuff, man! As a struggling artist myself, I find it difficult to accept failure. I feel as though I have to get it right the first time otherwise whats the point of continuing. But listening to your story helped me to realize that this is price you have to pay to get better at what you do, to become an innovator in this industry or any other. Theres just alot to think about....
