SPACE DANDY?Space Dandy is a new animated tv series By Shinichiro Watanabe (Cowboy Bebop/Samurai Champloo). It's a pretty ground-breaking show in that it's the first japanese animated TV series with a world-wide premiere (starting in America FIRST). It's personally my favorite, 2D animated tv series airing in the states right now. As a consumer of animated content on TV for decades, I (like many I'm sure) am quite used to getting quality stuff finished and packaged, so I can take things things like SD for granted. However, as a Tv animation series producer/director, I know how incredibly challenging & difficult it is to produce/direct a single episode from a hand-drawn, animated action or comedyTV series (be it 11 minutes format or 22 minutes). So watching what Watanabe and his crew are doing from a production/planning/execution standpoint is a lesson in humility for me. This is high-level stuff for a TV budget and it makes a me a little envious that the guys across the pond have i

I HATE THIS GUY. Seriously. I quit, LOL.I discovered Kim Jung Gi during my years living in South Korea when I came across his first sketchbook in '09. It was a blue and red bible of non-stop art. it made me cry. SEEING him do what he does, however, makes me contemplating giving up art altogether, lol. T________T #SoGood

Status reportFirst of all I am glad to be back! The outpouring of support, well-wishes and kind words made my time away a lot more tolerable. This is a personal "personal thank you" for everyone who pitched in to spread the word I had been suspended and where else (outside of DA) they could contact me. In fact the overt show of support seemed to be the pivotal factor in changing my permanent ban to a 2-week suspension.Would have been nice for the suspension to be "2-weeks minus 6 days for time already served as a ban", but I was not going to be picky because I seemed to be treading on pretty shaky grounds with regards to their reasoning to why I was being immediately banned and not just suspended.I am referring to the revelation that they turned down my ban appeal because of "my previous multiple suspensions" - suspensions that never occurred! (WTF!) Once I brought this to their attention, things happened behind the scenes pretty quickly and within an hour some button was pushed and my
The Making of YOSHINARI'S LITTLE WITCH ACADEMIAFor all aspiring artists/ students who whish to work in 2D animation production, and those already in 2D animation who know little to nothing about actual 2D animation production, here is but a glimpse of what it's like. This is also a pretty brilliant program enacted by Japanese grants to nurture the talent pool for the new generation. Watch director Yoh Yoshinari (gurren Lagaan, Evangelion, FLCL) train 5 young animators at his newly founded animation company STUDIO TRIGGER (KIll LA KILL), as he guides them through the process of helping him create the first episode of the wildly popular Little Witch Academia OVA. Inspiring stuff and a true peek behind the curtain of what it's like for young artists/creatives/animators who work under a giant like Yoshinari. Enjoy!!!!
A little message concerning the Typhoon DisasterTyphoon Haiyan in the Philippines was a disaster. But we are very fortunate that countries all over the world have helped us with their generous aid and donations, we received so much help more than we expected. As a fellow citizen of my country I wish to thank all of you from the bottom of my heart your generosity. And now a word to the President of the Phillippines, the Mayor of Tacloban city and all the govt' officials handling the situation. You are all INCOMPETENT. For the past week you've barely done anything to help the victims, not even something as simple as delivering the relief goods. I even heard cases where you wanted to tax these relief goods. Bullshit. You are all an embarrassment to your people and your country. Shame on you. Go to Hell.
Ramblings about 'internet fame'A lot of stuff has happened lately in life lately, and is has made me think about things, and about my perspective on it. One of those things, is the internet. As some of you know, I'm a huge nerd. While as kid, I didn't had a computer at home, and I hated those damn machines because I wasn't able to work with them at all (so much fail T__T), I soon caught up when I got my first computer at age 14. And while most of my family expected me to end up as a hopeless internet addict, I soon started to learn myself how to program. The rest is history. With my 26th birthday, I also celebrated being a webprogrammer for 10 years already. Oh yeah, I'm getting old for sure. The recent chain of events have caused me to think about the internet and it's role in life, however. When I first started out with art, I was only a little girl. Me, and both of my younger sisters, were all very creative. And we spend almost all of our time drawing at the kitchen table, while discussing about the characters we
LOCK PICK'S RANT SESSION:icontso1:I hardly ever bitch about anything, but today my mood is dialed down enough to do so. Earlier today I was browsing the Internet- typical of the today's routine- and had come across some phenomenal masterpieces as well as some potentially filled candidates- that always have at least one retarded remark, simply to either dig skin or because they have some stupid personal vendetta. 'Your work sucks lolol..' Or 'your anatomy is horribly off, it looks like a backwards cow...' Etc. the latter is hardly a critique and the former is clearly an insult, and by far the humorous part of the whole ordeal is nearly everyone who posts such a comment has a blank page, or is narrowly skilled in comparison. There are plenty of people I may not care for, but it's not worth my effort to go out of my way to argue a point, but even so, I can still respect them as a skilled or aspiring artist.Art is creative, inspiring and supposed to be fun. Within an art community you would feel you'd be right a
Had the Urge...…to write this because I'm getting repeated questions that are pretty much along the same lines and rather than direct each one to my FAQ, I have a different way to answer the question, which is basically:"Why am I not getting anywhere in my art? What can I do to get better? No one is liking my work, how can I get more people to like my work so they can pay me?"The real question you should be asking yourselves is:"Why am I drawing?"I mean, I take a look all the time at people who may not be skilled or whatever, and I'm sure they don't feel the best about their work (or they may), but they always have something to say that made them feel good while drawing it. Saw a sunset beach picture earlier that someone drew/painted and of course, it's not professional-looking at all. What ringed to me was the fact that in their comments, they said they "enjoyed it and was a relaxing piece". Not complaining about how the sand looks too crappy or the colors in the s
Appreciate Voice Overs and AnimatorsMarcia Wallace (Voice of The Simpsons Mrs. Krabappel) passed away and it's been a stark reminder to appreciate those who bring your favorite cartoons to life. When we watch a cartoon, you don't really think about the people who voice them. They're just there. They don't seem to have age or a mortality to them. In our minds we tend to think of cartoons as immortal. You can drop an anvil on them and they just keep going. Unfortunately, those who give them life, through voice acting and animation, do not. Something to consider when watching any cartoon. Enjoy them, appreciate them. More importantly appreciate the talents behind them. They wont be around forever. (Myself included unfortunately) Stupid mortality.
2013 coming to an endEDIT: Annnnd... I'm experiencing login issues again. Looks like it isn't so easy to solve this time. I guess you have to do it without me for now T__TAnother year that went by so terribly fast. And as much as I am against posting journals that are too personal (especially on the internet, since you never know who is gonna read them), these end-of-year overviews kinda became a tradition. The 2011 and 2012 versions were great to look back at. Even now. So I can see what kind of shit occupied my mind back then. And even now some events of the past still manage to inspire me to a certain level. So here we go! 2013 overview Job changing, again. Not that I
