Saw it in theaters here in Japan opening weekend. It was amazing and insane. In the theater they also included the directors short he did from the Ghibli museum that was done in the old Godzilla style. It was cool as shit!
I KNOW! So awesome! I'm dying of anticipation for the rest of it! And the new tv spot has even crazier footage. I don't know how I'm going to manage waiting for a translation to surface, the suspense is already killing me. >_<
That was some top notch animation and I would be super psyched for this if it just wasn't Eva. Maybe it's just that scene but if this is indicative of what 1.11, 2.22 and the rest of this movie are like then I'm glad I haven't seem them yet. Kids acting perfectly normal piloting military mechs to save the world is not even remotely close to what made the original show amazing. It wasn't about the action either so while I love the first two movies as stand alone pieces I think they pretty much shit on the grave of the original show's ending. I watch (and love) Gurren Lagann for that kind of crap.
Hear hear, I loved the use and sense of silence and calmness in the original series, it had momentum, it had impact, and it took it's time to build up the correct emotional tension. This new one however just uses explosions and action and merchandising everywhere to the similarity of all other comercial series out there at the moment, the fact that the series didn't do that, was what made it good to begin with, and they went ahead and pissed all over that. I'm still going to watch it, but I'm rather disapointed already with the reviews and things I have heard about the movie...
I suppose I should check them out too. I got and 1.11 2.22 on dvd dirt cheep a while back but I haven't watched them yet. I think I just have to separate them from the show in my head and not relate the two. I should be able to enjoy these movies on their own merit that way.
Precisely, that's the only way to enjoy them, if you see it in a gurren lagan or top o neraete (diebuster/gunbuster) kind of way, it works. But that is definitely (NOT) what the first series was about.
My favorite anime series ever. I fell in love with the original 26 episodes from 1997 and then the end of evangelion. Then I heard about the rebuild of evangelion. the first 2 movies were incredible. I can (not) wait to see 3.0! I need to see it.
Yeah, pretty much, but when i say old school, I'm talking Transformers G.1 and Gundam Zeta & Double Zeta, years before they used computers in those scenes in "The Great Mouse detective" & "Akira". Yeah, I'm a bit old...
