TO THE ASPIRING ARTISTS...."The advice I like to give young artists, or really anybody who'll listen to me, is not to wait around for inspiration. Inspiration is for amateurs; the rest of us just show up and get to work. If you wait around for the clouds to part and a bolt of lightning to strike you in the brain, you are not going to make an awful lot of work. All the best ideas come out of the process; they come out of the work itself. Things occur to you. If you're sitting around trying to dream up a great art idea, you can sit there a long time before anything happens. But if you just get to work, something will occur to you and something else will occur to you and something else that you reject will push you in another direction. Inspiration is absolutely unnecessary and somehow deceptive. You feel like you need this great idea before you can get down to work, and I find that's almost never the case." - Chuck CloseGood luck on your projects this year!L
THIS is how you use the FLASH/ ANIMATION program.By being an exceptional artist/animator FIRST. Flash is just a very limited vector-based, digital graphics program. It's just a TOOL, just like pencil and paper. It's the artists using them that bring out its quality. Here's an example:Got it?Good luck on your projects!!!

I HATE THIS GUY. Seriously. I quit, LOL.I discovered Kim Jung Gi during my years living in South Korea when I came across his first sketchbook in '09. It was a blue and red bible of non-stop art. it made me cry. SEEING him do what he does, however, makes me contemplating giving up art altogether, lol. T________T #SoGood
THE MAKING OF GURREN LAGANN!!!!The making of one of the greatest animated TV series ever made, GAINAX'S galaxy-shattering "TENGEN TOPPA GURREN LAGANN!!!"
TO THE ASPIRING ARTISTS OUT THERE..."One of the things people say to me ' Can you do it? You know, i don't really have a budget, It won't take you too long, right, you can just whip it out, right? NO. For me, in order to do that drawing, even if it takes me 10 minutes to do, the reality is it's taken me FORTY YEARS and 10 MINUTES TO DO, because of all of my EXPERIENCE, and that's what's so important to understand that this is YOUR energy and this is YOUR time... These people who are asking you to do this stuff for free, you think they're getting paid? OF COURSE they're getting paid. This happens and this why people do this. This is why there's so many STARVING ARTISTS out there."

TO ASPIRING ARTISTS AND STUDENTSbest of luck to you this year!
It's not a birthday without RAAAMBLES.Heeeey folks.Firstly, thanks for all the birthday well-wishing. Veritable.. mountains of well-wishing. Though I'd be just as content postponing my birthday until next year. And then maybe the year after that, and after that..A year older and a year wiser. Well, the latter is debatable. But definitely a year older! This year has been a wild, satisfying, disappointing, exciting one. It marks my first total year as a freelancer, which has been simultaneously one of the most liberating and terrifying career leaps I've ever made. Thankfully, the studio I've ended up working with for the entire year has been a very welcoming one. The workload can be immense, but outside of being paid, there are few rewards greater than seeing your work animated in a game after toiling on it for hours. Getting to visit Barcelona was another fantastic perk. I really can't complain at all about work, this year. I've worked with the guys from Wayforward, Vigil, did a bit of here-and-there for my old stu

Dead Bodies Don't Cryi. You are born with twisted feetand a pockmark on your chest.Your poor mother is drenched in sweat, straining to breathe, thanking God that it's over. She cradles you in her armsand kisses your forehead with curved lips.Your father reaches out to hold youbut has to pause becauseyour mother will not release you yet.The family pays a visit, hovering in awe, praising, laughing. You look around for someone to blame.ii.When you learn to writeyou use all the wrong lettersbecause you feel sorry for the onesthat get left out, like X and Z.And you wear mismatched clothesbecause you don't like the idea thatonly certain colors "go together."The first time you are punchedin the face it is by a girl with pigtails and braces. You're sitting on a swing, digging your toes into the dirt, when she approachesand says she thinks you're weird. You tell her she's even weirder, and her fistgoes sailing into your jaw. You're red and sore for two days. You meet your first crushon bleachers
is there any hopeis there any hope? somtimes i jus wanna hold an angel...let her tell me its alright. let her tell me that she is here for me. let her say that she loves me, and mean it...if she ever gets lonely, i would let her ask me to come to her...and i would. when i get there, she hugs me so hard i can feel her heart beat...for me. she would say that she missed me and that shes glad that i showed up... why wouldn't i? then we would jus sit and lay and hold each other until...until...until we become one. or at least, until i wake up.
How to be successful with commissions?Hello dear readers! After being on deviantart and other places and making commissions for few years I have gathered quite a bit of experience. I do try to help others with advices if I am asked. It seems to me, that the best thing is to make a journal entry with summarized guidelines for people who make commissions.I hope you will find this helpful and enjoyable. Read on!To sell anything (pictures, writing, crafts...etc) you need first to be seen by others. Here how you can make that happen, these all I have observed over the years from others. The initial part - get to be seen: join social sites - not only deviantart account, but facebook, tumblr, twitter, etc... display your works there - sha
Uh Fack, part 1.5 : Some thoughts on perfectionAnxiousness, frustration and the likes have been effecting me as an artist, holding me back in my pursuit of progress and happiness. I've noticed two things about that: Taking the time to dissect the problem helps me to find the right answers, And I'm all but alone in dealing with these problems. For me there's two types of challenges in becoming a better artist: the mental blockades, and the actual practicing. The 2nd challenge is the one that is being addressed aplenty in the form of an seemingly infinite numbers of tutorials, live streams, demo's and what not. But if you find yourself struggling with the first challenge there isn't quite as much to work with. Plenty funny, recognizable and sometimes even consoling memes and comics about the topic have been made, but usually they offer little solution. That's why I've decided to focus on the first challenge for now.(UNACHIEVABLE) PERFECTION.Part of the condition of being an artist is the yearning for perfection, e
Uh Fack, part1: Improving, angst and frustration.Progress. A thing we all want, right? Some more than others perhaps, but I think I can safely say that it's the one thing all artists want; to be a better artist. In the past few years I've been struggling with this topic a lot. I ran into one of those phases in which I learned a lot of what I was doing wrong, but didn't manage to work on any solutions for these problems. I felt like going backwards, and I grew increasingly frustrated with my own art. I'm progressing, but hardly as much as I aspire to - while I do spend most of my waking hours drawing.Sure, a bunch of my comic work allows me to study and practice - but it's a very narrow and same-y kind of study- and there isn't really room for mistakes or experiment because of time constrains. So, this is what I found to be a super effective 4 steps plan to become an unhappy and frustrated artist:Be a perfectionist. Preferably with high ambitions. (actually, just step 1 would get you a long way with be
Post Office Rant (read if bought prints)OKAY... so... I'm a really pleasant guy. I'm OVERLY pleasant. I go out of my way to smile at people, thank the lady on the speaker at the drive thru, and shake hands with anyone who helps me find something at Best Buy. I don't make a fuss, and I KNOW what retails is like, so I let people do their thing! I don't want fussy customers when I'm working, so I try my absolute best NOT to be one.But today argghhh....Last week when I dropped off prints at the Post Office, I was berated for writing "DO NOT BEND" on them. Apparently this is only allowed if you are shipping things labeled as PARCEL or PACKAGES. But you know what? I DO ship all of my prints as Parcel! That way they are treated with more care, and I can label them as DO NOT BEND.However, APPARENTLY I have to use USPS's DO NOT BEND stickers. Which is total bullshit. HOWEVER, I decided to humor USPS today, and I went with my envelopes unlabeled. I asked the nice grumpy lady for DO NOT BEND stickers. She said, "Dose only for parcel
Why people think art should be cheapI mean some people even think that digital art should be cheaper than traditional, because there is no original. Its funny when people ask tons of things in a drawing, like 30 characters fighting a 12 dragons, and they think they can get it cheaper than a pencil drawing, because in the computer there must be a secret brush that makes all of this in 2 hours.Sadly, painted style in digital takes more time than traditional. Artists says its easier, because you have more control. But sadly textures are cooler in traditional, and easier.I remember 4 or 5 years ago when started thinking bout digital, i said damn if i learn digital, i will skip drawings and paint directly, this will make my life easier, it will take me less time to finish a product, like i can even finish 3 drawings in just a day, yeahhh i should try that.5 years later, i was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo wroonnngggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg. So i used to think the same about speed, but not about price. So wh

Art is BrainwashHhahahahha is as bad as it sounds. Im gonna ask you guys this because im not sure if im the only one with this issue.Im constantly reading book, art books, topics, improving, learning anatomy muscles, then the next day learn something else. But few days later ive already forgot some important stuff, so i go back to re learn color, but then i forgot some part of anatomy, so i go back and study again that part of anatomy, but then i forgot about values, so i have to go and study that again, but then again forgot about colors so i have to go again and...............................................................Etc. Eternal spiral. And the irony is that i know every single hidden item on metroid maps, i know were are all the rupies and hearts hidden at zelda, i know how much points i need to unlock next weapon on Bf4. But i forget somethign as easy as drawing a knee? Are you f%%&%&%%&%& kidding me?????????????ARRRGHHHHHHHHHGGGHHHHHHI had read that people forget 80% of
Wacom Horror Warning peopleI realized i just been living in a lie. Been coloring with the wrong icc profile for almost 6 years. Its because all this time i had a secondary monitor like 8 years old that ive never notice it. I just bought recently a cheap and amazing monitor 23 inches aoc, and noticed that my cintiq tablet colors looked washed away.I asked myself why all my drawings in deviant art dont look like in my cintiq, they look washed away or burned.Because of two problems.I have all my files in adobe 1998 icc, which its good for printing but not web browsing, but the most horrible one, its that the cintiq21ux.icc that came in my cd was really wrong. Got the correct one in a wacom europe page, my cintiq its first generation, so new drivers sucked hard doesnt work. Also warning for those that have same old cintiq like me, new drivers screw up the pen, cuts the pressure in half or gives weird pressure to it-, and worst ive been coloring with pen pressure wrong and color really bad.I had been coloring bli
The true pain of an arrttiissstttIs not in the hearts or soul or that crap, it's in your damn hands.ARGGHHHH my boonnneeesssss are so hurrttyyy. Call it Arthritis, joint pain, overworking, etc. ... You probably have it too.Playing lots of fighters on arcade sticks and a few obsessive years of Beatmania doesn't help.A year ago I started taking Black Cherry Extract, on the advice of my dad who has horrific knobby hands that look like his fingers are made up of old blocky G1 combiner transformers. I noticed absolutely no pain in like a day, if not hours.1000mg a day. Do it.It's got be BLACK cherry though. Tart cherry of regular cherry won't cut it. They're alright, but not as good.ANYWAY. Ran out a few days ago. My hands hurt like hell... going to GNC when they open.
