LAGAAN WARM UP SKETCH VIDEO by LeSeanThomas LAGAAN WARM UP SKETCH VIDEO by LeSeanThomas
Happy Vacation days y'all.

Above is a warm-up scribble before i tackled the remaining batch of cannonbusters pages for this past weekend (you can see them on my messy table at the beginning of the footage) and i filmed it guerrilla style. one hand on the cam, the other on the grind. *note to self: get a tripod, lol*

. its featuring Simon and Lagaan of my favorite animated tv series right now, Gainax's "TENGEN TOPPA GURREN LAGAAN." this is me laying out a thumbnail i'd blown up. here's the video footage of me scribbling this out below:

PART 1

PART 2

*If i were an emcee, this would be considered a "freestyle." LOL*

questions?

Was it a preview sketch before you laid blue and red lines? I think I saw one here, but what's biting me is was one on your Riley sketch too or it was done from a scratch entirely?

Don't think i need to tell that you work is great ) I'm sure you pretty much aware of that )

I'm working on some some animation project right now and I'd like to ask you to watch it and tell what's wrong with it. It's really short so i don't think it'll take too much of your time ) It just very hard to find someone here in russia who know the drill. What do you say about it? ) I'd be grateful.

Man, I prolly sound like a crazed fan and shit, but man ur stuff is on point. I think you should put some more videos of you drawing on youtube, its sort of taboo though, seeing how you do what you do. Ya shit is on point though. Can't wait for more. Oh, and how long did it take you to get Cannon busters up and runnin?

Nice to see you post up videos of you drawing. Here are some questions:

1. Any practices that you do to increase your gestures as you draw?
2. How big is your lightbox?
3. Plan to come to Atlanta anytime in 2008?

2.My drafting table is plexiglass. the whole thing's a ligthbox.
3.i only sign at cons that are important to me: NYCC and SDCC. i cover east and west with those two. anything else would be special request by the convention execs. thanks.

3.i only sign at cons that are important to me: NYCC and SDCC. i cover east and west with those two. anything else would be special request by the convention execs. thanks. If you could answer this (when you can) would college speakings count as well? It doesn't have to be anytime soon, just when you're free, as well as how you would like to work that out...

Thanks for taking the time to answer man, and have a good holiday season!

Nice picture of Lagaan and Simon. Here's my question.

If the blue is for black and the red for shadow, why not use the black instead of the blue to start out with and make the shadows?

Sorry if this feels like an easy question, but I really never understood the whole use blue instead of black concept.

"if the blue is for black and the red for shadow, why not use the black instead of the blue to start out with and make the shadows? "

because that's what i like to use.

it's not that deep.

just a preference.

My question goes to your method. Do you draw small then blow it up and lightbox it? Or are you drawing on thin paper and cleaning up the blown up pic on it.

Also, when you do color holds or guides do the colorist not get pissed with that? I am just curious as to what type of reaction you get from them.

:iconleseanthomas:

both good questions.

to answer the first, i'm drawing it small and blowing it up and laying out on lightbox in blue.

i later clean up with pencil (since the blue and red are non-photo and doesn't reproduce when you copy it)

to answer the second, no. in fact it helps the colorists i work with because they arent stuck trying to guess my shapes when applying shadow. if anything, if they dont follow it exactly, it at least gives them a guide to my shapes, since i work with such a thin line.

thanks for the interest, bro :)

Well, do you mind me asking another question?

Whenever I have tried to lightbox my work I tend to loose the energy from my orginial pic. The pic tends to be static. How can I maintain the energy on the pic that lightbox?

Thanks again for the answers and insight. Learning is the only way to grow.

damn... :/ I could never draw like what you just did in that amount of time... D:

I have a question, what's the purpose of the red and blue pencils? (and what are they?)

(idk too much about the "tools of the trade"... )
